One evening, Erica Roberts sent me a drawing of a fort she dreamed of building. We came pretty damn close to the drawing, down to the cucumbers.
We built the fort in an abandoned lot next to my house in the 8th ward, entirely out of reclaimed materials we had been hoarding from abandoned houses and free piles. It quickly became a curiosity and favorite for the local kids and grown ups alike.
As with many projects, one cannot always expect something to last forever, and the fort was irreparably damaged during Hurricane Ida and removed.
